I know there are already hundreds of videos on youtube with people unboxing the mavic and reviewing it, but I only bought it now and I just couldn't help myself.
My unique approach to this video is the REASON I got it so late. And no, it's not because I preoredered it and never came.
The main reason I only got it now is that until this month (february-march 2017), the guys at DJI just had to many orders to fulfil and the shipping time was really bad ( almost all over the world).
I got mine in like 3 days (in USA it's probably even faster).
Also, here are some other reasons why I think now is the perfect time to get the mavic.
- The mavic camera has to stay small for at least some time, as the size is the main point of it. So there isn't that much of a chance to put a very big camera on the mavic, and therefore an upgrade is probably farther in the future.
- DJI probably won't release another Mavic-like drone for at least a year
This is because they want to capitalize on the curent market and make most of it. They are also very far ahead versus their competition and they have also other releases in plan, like the Selfie drone or the more professional DJI Matrice 200.
The foam mold inside is pretty sturdy which means it will deal pretty well with pressure, so it wasn't far fetched saying that I could use this as a carrying case.
Before flying the first time, you need to remove the dome and also take off the gimbal holder, or else the app will give an error.
Just like the Phantom 4, it also comes with 2 sonar sensors on the bottom AND 2 cameras that are used to pinpoint the exact location you took off from and land exactly there.
The bottom side is all metal but the plastic is also high quality and it makes me feel like this could actually handle some damage.
Next on the list is the Transmitter, and it's simply amazing that this little thing can have more range than the phantom 4 controller that's almost as big as this entire box.
The sticks feel really responsive and the antennas are, again, very sturdy. I really like the ergonomics of this and it feels like a premium game controller in my hands.
Underneath the drone there are 2 sets of propellers with two pieces each. The drone already has the bottom ones installed, so this means you get 2 spare props with the standard package. It's really easy to install them. Just look for the matching color, black or white and then press each one down and turn slightly.
And underneath it there's the battery charger with two additional usb charging exits, oh and by the way, the battery on this is much easier to remove than on the phantom 4 and lasts a little longer too. In terms of cables we have 2 USB C connectors and two for android and the power charging cable.
